About North Mountain Mindfulness

Nicole North

Hello!  I am Nicole, and first and foremost, I am a mama and a wife.  My family has been my center focus for the last ten years.  Growing as a mother has been the single most psychedelic experience of my life.  Discovering who I am through the lens of babies has got to be the biggest blessing and the most challenging work I have ever done.  It's no surprise I find myself in this business, though.  I am a nurturer at heart, and taking care of people is my love language.  Holding space for another human being in this way is such an honor and a true gift.

The story of how I got here is an interesting one.  But it begins with a little girl who was an avid seeker of knowledge.  I wanted to know everything about everything.  Not just the facts, the proof, the understanding, and the truth.  However, for many years, I found myself removed from the meaning of spirituality or purpose.  Psychedelics are beginning to change that for me.  I'm beginning to discover who I truly am and how to show up in this world as the multi-layered, perfectly imperfect me that I am.

This is what I want for you as well.  I want to walk with you on a journey of discovering who you are and all you are meant to be.  Inviting sacred earth medicines into our bodies is a big decision, and I am here to help ease that process as much as I can by supporting you every step of the way.  As a fellow traveler myself, I take my relationship with these medicines very seriously.  In doing so, I trust the innate intelligence of these medicines and feel honored to call them my teachers.

In my spare time, I love going to reggae shows with my husband. Music is life! I also love to write and will read almost any non-fiction book. My favorite place to be on the planet is in the ocean with my family or snuggled up in cozy clothes, watching a movie with them.

Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapy™

Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Therapy™ (MBPT), developed by Daniel McQueen, is a psychedelic therapy and guiding modality that integrates mindfulness practices, transpersonal psychology, and traditional guiding practices with somatic-informed interventions and the therapeutic and intentional use of psychedelic medicines.  This modality has shown to be effective at allowing people to remain in their experience and better navigate challenging moments.

My Approach

Everything I aim to bring into our journey together is designed to curate the best possible set and setting.  Research has shown that these two things matter greatly when analyzing and predicting outcomes for psychedelic-assisted therapy.

  • Mindfulness

Using mindfulness practices, we can open the door, allowing our awareness to illuminate what we are experiencing during a psychedelic experience.  These practices include body scans, mindful breathing, awareness scans, visualization, acceptance, and remaining present. When we do this, we are afforded deeper somatic awareness and concentrated focus.  Coupling mindfulness with psychedelics is a very powerful tool.

  • Ceremony and Intentionality

If you've ever been to a ceremony of any sort, you understand that the energy can feel palpably different from a casual evening at home.  Building ceremonies into psychedelic journeys can do the same thing.  We intentionally shift the energy.  If we treat these experiences as sacred and deeply meaningful, as something to be revered, we will notice the difference.  This is how we step out of the recreational space and into the sacred.  We do that through our intentions and rituals.  This will look different for everyone and for some, this may be a new idea and can feel awkward.  To that, I say, trust.  Trust the medicines and trust that our intentions are far more powerful than we give credit.  And most of all, have fun with it!  In our preparation calls, we will discuss the ceremony and intentions and what that means to you.  From there, we will create the right space together.

  • Music

There is excellent medicine in music.  It aids us in the emotional releases that the body needs and craves.  It carries us to the highest of places and comforts us in the darkest.  Each journey I guide is assisted by music matching the client and the medicine.  Thoughtfully curated playlists are used and shared with clients for integrative support.

  • Breath and Breathwork

Breath is our most powerful ally in life, especially in these psychedelic journeys.  It is our life force.  It can calm an anxious heart or bring fire and electricity into our bodies through breathwork.  I utilize different types of breathing patterns and active breathwork to soften or amplify the experience or to bring greater awareness to our bodily sensations.  Breathing in this way helps to support the body and the mind, allowing for deeper experiences.

  • Spirituality

What is spirituality?  For me, spirituality consists of any activity or anything that allows me to get to know or experience myself on a deeper level.  Some things that I find deeply spiritual are music, yoga, dancing with my kids, the ocean, the mountains, the rivers, the sunshine on my face, staring at the stars in the desert night sky, deep conversations with loved ones, and psychedelic journeys.  So many things can be spiritual if we adjust our lens and surrender to the moment.  Psychedelic experiences are often described as spiritual, mystical, or deeply meaningful.  Naming this can normalize these experiences and make them easier to understand and integrate.

  • Parts Work

For those of you not familiar, Dick Schwartz is the founder of Internal Family Systems (IFS), a modality of therapy he created in response to the discovery that we are all governed by different 'parts' of ourselves.  He also postulates that we have a highest level of Self that knows how to heal, allowing us to become whole and integrated.  I mention this because these parts can end up showing themselves in psychedelic experiences.  Although I have not had any formal training in this therapy modality, I have eagerly studied it on my own due to the frequency in which this shows up.  I feel confident in my ability to hold space for all of the parts of you that show up in an experience.

Education and Training

  • I am a credentialed Mindfulness-Based Psychedelic Guide with Medicinal Mindfulness in Boulder, CO.  I have received extensive training in guiding clients through Cannabis-Assisted Psychedelic Therapy.
  • I received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2013, and this education has informed my love of all things science and helped to bridge my spiritual beliefs with the more conventional ways of healing.
  • I am currently studying yoga, kundalini yoga, and meditation.
  • I am a lifelong student, and in my spare time, you can find my head in any book related to health, spirituality, psychology, philosophy, therapeutic modalities, and all things psychedelics.
